Review: Teelings Single Malt

The story of Teeling Whiskey

By now, you should have no doubt have heard of Teelings. Opened in 2015, it was the first new whiskey distillery in the capital in nearly 125 years. Established by Jack and Stephen Teeling, sons of the famed founder of Cooley Distillery, John Teeling, the new distillery quickly became the toast of the Irish whiskey scene.

Since they’ve opened their distillery in the Dublin Liberties, they have released a range of styles and vintages. Winning awards all across the world in a number of categories, they are at the forefront of the Irish whiskey revival.

So what does it taste like?

I’m not going to lie – I am incredibly biased towards everything that the Teeling Distillery does. They could sell me a can of coke and I’d give it top marks.

And this drink is no different – The Teeling Single Malt is a combination of different whiskeys, all finished in a variety of casks – sherry, port, Madeira, white burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon.

This is fantastic stuff. On the nose you will get a gentle whiff of florals and fruitiness. Some of the white wine finish sneaks in here too. In the mouth, the fruit comes to life and combines with pepper to smash your tongue right open. The finish is thick, with cinnamon hitting the back of your throat. It’s a long sharp finish with hints of wood. Delish.

This is an absolutely cracking dram. Everything that is right about Irish whiskey is contained within this bottle. At its price point it’s the best in class. I can’t get enough of this stuff. Grab one now.
